Macronutrients
Protein
Protein from meat is the most essential nutrient for dogs as it contains 22 amino acids vital for their growth and development of a healthy immune system.
Yet, not all protein is made equal. As opposed to low-quality protein sources such as by-products and rendered meats like chicken meal that do not contain essential amino acids, fresh animal protein sources like meat and eggs have high bioavailability.
Being rich in essential amino acids, GoodWoof diets have been scientifically proven to increase protein degradation even when compared to kibble with more protein on a dry matter basis (p<0.05).
Fats
Fats are the most optimal fuel source for dogs as they are a highly digestible and concentrated form of energy. Unlike humans, dogs’ muscles are specially adapted to use fats. In the right proportion, it helps to regulate bodily functions, alleviate skin problems, and aid in brain development for puppies while supporting eye, heart and muscle health.
Your dog will thank you for adding fats into their meals as it makes for a more enjoyable meal while aiding in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, E, D and K. As fat goes rancid quickly when exposed to air, unlock its full value by using high-quality and fresh sources for a happier, healthier dog.
Dogs on GoodWoof diets have shown increased butyrate production (SCFA) which is critical for immune and gut health – Alleviating conditions such as IBS and Leaky Gut (p<0.05).
Seafoods
Seafood is a great source of protein, as it is low in saturated fats and rich in Omega 3 along with other essential vitamins and minerals. Omega 3 reduces inflammation and bowel disruptions such as ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease. Research also shows that Omega 3 fats help to prevent heart problems, decrease triglyceride and blood cholesterol levels while alleviating autoimmune disorders, allergies and some skin conditions.
To avoid issues commonly associated with seafood like mercury build-up, heavy metal toxicity and thiaminase, we source our seafood from safe waters and particular species with shorter lifespans. Our diets have a good balance of seafood and other protein sources so your dog gets the range of amino acids they need.
Vitamins & Minerals
Minerals are inorganic nutrients that are necessary for growth and maintaining strong bones and teeth. Striking the right balance of minerals is key as a surplus of one mineral can impact the absorption of another.
There is a stark contrast in the nutritional efficacy of synthetic vitamins and minerals compared to those found in naturally occurring substances. Though they may seem similar on paper, synthetic alternatives typically carry a single component of the whole micro-nutrient family that exists in natural substances and are not absorbed well by the body.
With our curated selection of fresh produce and organic supplements, we provide the most bioavailable sources of vitamins and minerals to ensure your pet is getting the best out of every meal.
Supplements
Organic Sea Kelp
Sea Kelp has the widest spectrum of vitamins and trace minerals found in any plant group with 21 different amino acid profiles and 60 different types of minerals and vitamins. The alginic acid found in kelp helps with dental plaque and skin allergies as it is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent.
Sea Kelp also has one of the best natural sources of iodine, an essential component for the regulation of gland activity in the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands so your dog can have a healthy metabolism.
Rosehip Extract
Rosehip is a super fruit that is rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins A, B and particularly in vitamin C. Found naturally in rose blossoms, it promotes a stronger immune system with benefits that include reducing joint pain, improving mobility, delaying the onset of arthritic changes and slowing down any existing cartilage degeneration.
We use Rosehip Extract which condense 10 parts of raw material to make 1 part of the finished product. The active and beneficial components of the fruit are isolated and concentrated to maximise its potential. Dogs prone to hip dysplasia benefit greatly from Rosehips.
Organic Alfalfa Leaf
Alfalfa is a nutrient-dense herb part of the pea family. It is loaded with an immense range of trace minerals and vitamins (A, B1, B6, B12, C, D, E, and K), and even contain betacarotene, flavones, isoflavones and sterols.
Alfalfa is a natural diuretic that can aid in keeping bladder infection at bay with its alkalising effect that moderates overly-acidic urine. For dogs with tooth decay, eating alfalfa is useful as it contains chlorophyll that supports oral health and reduces bad breath.
Turmeric & Black Pepper Extract
Golden Paste is created by combining turmeric and black pepper. The curcumin in turmeric and the piperine in black pepper paired together increase the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream by 2000%. To enhance the efficacy of curcumin, we use extracts that are 19 times stronger to reap the full benefits of this superfood.
Turmeric is recommended for dogs with issues like arthritis, diabetes, cancer, liver disease and gastrointestinal issues due to its antiviral and antibacterial properties.
Organic Psyllium Husk
Psyllium Husk is a form of soluble dietary fiber derived from the mucilage-coated seeds of the Plantago Psyllium plant. It has the ability to cleanse the colon by gently absorbing toxins from the walls of the intestines and removing them naturally through the stools.
Dogs suffering from constipation or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) will benefit greatly from Psyllium Husk as the mucilage content helps increase moisture content in the colon and large intestines, promoting healthy bowel functions.
Milk Thistle Extract
Milk Thistle is a flower in the Aster family and is one of the rare traditional herbs widely accepted by science to have compelling medicinal value for over 2000 years.
It contains Silymarin which is an active component that induces protein production in the liver cells, stimulating the growth of new liver cells to replace damaged ones.Silymarin also has the ability to combat toxins that try to bind to the liver.
Dogs battling liver disease can feast on diets with organic milk thistle extract.
MSM
Methylsulfonylmethane, also known as MSM, is a dietary supplement with organic sulfur that primarily supports joint health.
MSM is a natural analgesic that can relieve any pain that your dog experiences. Other benefits include being a strong antioxidant which aids in detoxification and improving cellular uptake of nutrients in the body. MSM also alleviates symptoms of food and environmental allergies with its ability to naturally block hosts and allergens.
Glucosamine
Glucosamine works with MSM to maintain the cartilage in the joints, improve mobility and slow down the aging process of the joints.
As your dog ages, its body produces less glucosamine which results in stiff joints with degrading cartilage. Glucosamine with MSM helps lubricate joints and stimulate the production of proteoglycans, maintaining joint resilience.
Glucosamine also helps with gut health by creating connective tissue and repairing mucous membranes that form the barrier of the gastrointestinal system to reduce inflammation.
